Revisiting Classics – Raah pe rehte hain

He did not have the looks, physique or the voice to make it big in Bollywood, and yet he did with his sheer talent.. A powerhouse in acting, this man born as Harihar Jethalal Jariwala (or Haribhai as he was referred to later) gave his career best performance as a certain Haricharan in Gulzar’s Koshish.. for which he went on to win the national award, along with another one that he won for Dastak… As unconventional as he was, he still won 3 filmfare awards and was nominated 11 other times, which the other huge stars of the era cannot claim! He was possibly the best mainstream ‘actor’ of his times!

From the mighty Thakur of Sholay to the man of grace and poise in Aandhi, Silsila or Mausam, to a challenging role of Khilona, to playing the light comic roles of Angoor, Shriman Shrimati or Pati Patni aur Woh, to the characters you will always question but never despise in Namkeen or Grihapravesh, Sanjeev Kumar displayed range and depth like no one else, not even like the Megastar of the millenium!

Happy Birthday Sanjeev Kumar!! You defined a class by yourself that no one else could ever attain!

Here is one of my most favorite songs of the legend – the synopsis of life delivered straight from the heart!
