It was around three years ago, when The Academy was highly criticized for its Oscar Awards winners list being not diverse enough, and hence had been criticized for being #OscarsSoWhite. It was a hard criticism and corrective actions had to follow. ‘Representation matters’ – became the driving force for the next set of years, and nominations and winners started to get decided to ensure inclusion & diversity. Not a bad thing at all, in fact it is a fair parameter under consideration to promote and motivate the craft across the board. But it hurts when political correctness gets the upper hand at the cost of excellence on the craft, and the best talents and nominations for the year get snubbed, because they don’t check the boxes of diversity, nationalism, staying politically correct and relevant, and so many other factors.
